Palate
1995 is a modern and concentrated vintage with significant potential. At Château Palmer, we describe it as Mediterranean: solar and southern.
Growing Conditions
Time works everything out. With not a cloud in the sky during the summer, and just a little rain and a touch of coolness in September, the grapes were harvested at optimal maturity. The result was a wine of great aromatic richness.
Precocity and a dry summer are the two striking elements of this vintage. Good weather came in April, continued on in May and full bloom occurred on June 4th, 10 days ahead of schedule. The months of June, July and August made up one of the hottest and driest summers for half a century. On July 20th and 25th temperatures of 37°C were recorded as well as just 89 mm of rain over the preceding 3 months. Persistent heat continued on throughout August. The vines suffered and ripening was slow. September was rainy and cool, thus maintaining an excellent health status. Indeed, the rain unlocked the véraison, without causing significant dilution as the sap flow was slowed down.
Harvest
Harvesting began after the rainfall, allowing us to harvest each grape variety at its optimum maturity. The wines have such wonderful density and such a degree of perfection that we imagine them as unalterable in time.
