Palate

If the vintage is missing a little structure and depth, it remains round and elegant.

However, selective sorting of the grapes allowed for the production of well- rounded and elegant wines. 1967 is a very surprising vintage. It is spicy and refined. It is a slightly restrained but well respected vintage.

Growing Conditions

After lovely weather… Cold and wet conditions interrupted promising flowering and grape development. Faced with the threat of disease, harvesting began early.

1967 is a vintage described as ‘unexpected’ by Château Palmer. The vines started to grow on March 28th. The month of April was marked by very good weather despite a few harmless light frosts. The vegetation period launched itself in May. Flowering began at the beginning of June and continued under excellent conditions, announcing a very promising harvest. The next two months were favourable, especially July with 27 consecutively dry days and a heat record. It is said that vines ‘suffer’ under such conditions, a positive sign for the future quality of the 1967 vintage. Abundant rain came on August 8th and did a lot of good to the vines that then began to change colour. Unfortunately, September came with 3 rainy periods making maturation difficult and incomplete. The development of uncontrolled diseases necessitated an early start to harvesting, which took place in wet conditions some days. Although the vintage was abundant, the maturity of the grapes
was often incomplete and the harvest too diluted, giving little structure or balance to the wines.
