Nose
The nose is rich and dense, with floral overtones that evolve into notes of apricot, white peach, litchi and fresh pineapple. This is a superb expression of Sauvignon, which is the main constituent of our blend.
Palate
The attack is lively and flattering, before going on to reveal a backbone of freshness supported by notes of bitter orange and clementine.
Growing Conditions
A mild winter, warm wet spring, and dry summer meant that we harvested earlier than ever before at Fieuzal. We began to see vegetation on the vines than usual, followed by flowering, which occurred in ideal conditions. ‘Veraison’ (the moment when the grapes change colour) was spectacularly precocious, with the vineyard seeming to cry out for a very early harvest.
Winemaking
Fieuzal white is an enchanting balance between our Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon fruit.
The style of our 2020 white is unlike any other. There is tension and precision, but also density and a lavish texture that make this blend quite remarkable at this stage.
No sulphur was added during the vinification process.
Aging
Aged for 12 months in French Oak barrels, the wine grows to fill the entire palate whilst providing a teasing combination of zesty, fruity and floral notes.
Appearance
There is a slight cloudiness, because as I write the wine is still on its lees, with silverish tints.
