A brief history
In Montussan between Bordeaux, Libourne and Saint Emilion, Vignoble Maulin benefits from a magnificent terroir which gives its wines their roundness, generosity and structure.
Éric Maulin follows a natural approach to winemaking, he applies reasoned agriculture on a plot to plot basis since 1992 and is proud to be HEV certified since 2019.
The new, modernized winery combines technology (temperature control, punchdowns, etc…) and tradition (long maceration, batch vinification, natural yeasts for red wine, etc...). We are entirely autonomous for all stages of production: from vine-growing to bottling.
Average age of vines is 40 years. We are fortunate to have a wide diversity of soil : chalky clayey, sandy loam, gravelly soils that allows a wide range of aromatic complexity.
Currently the vineyard represents approximately 53 hectares with Château Freyneau, Château La Tuilerie added with Château De Gassis and Château Des Romains. We grow several red grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot, as well as white grape varieties: Sauvignon, Sémillon & Muscadelle.
