A brief history
CRU LA MAQUELINE spans 36 hectares to the south of Margaux, on the banks of the Gironde estuary. The use of the term ‘Cru’ is unusual as it can be used to denote both the estate and the wine it produces. In 2006, when Philippe and Catherine Castel acquired the property, which dates back to 1892, they decided against a name change. Cru la Maqueline, with its distinctive ranch-style architecture, is also home to the elaborate stables which house the family's collection of competitive reining horses. The wine produced here is as unique as the property itself – New World in style, with a majority Merlot blend.
