A brief history
A single magnificent Elm tree has been thriving for over 150 years in Puy Arnaud. Its majestic presence makes this tree the “master” of the premises hence its apposition on our labels.
We haven’t used any pesticide, insecticide or synthetic herbicide for the past 20 years. The vineyard protection is insured by very low doses of “bouillie Bordelaise” (copper sulfate), flowers and flowable sulfur as well as herbal teas and flower extracts.
Puy Arnaud is located at an altitude of 90 to 100 meters on an extraordinary plateau terroir. It lies on limestone with starfish fossils mixed with a few limestone veins from Castillon.
The property occupies 90% of the surface of the limestone plateau on the Puy Arnaud zone, which also gives the Cru a uniqueness in its expression which justified the choice to make it a Clos.
The vineyard consists of 32 plots on a total surface of 15 hectares. 65% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Franc, 4% Cabernet sauvignon, 2% Malbec, 1.5% Sauvignon blanc and 1.5% Castets.
