Château Picard

A brief history

Classified Cru Bourgeois in 1932, Château Picard in the heart of the village of Saint-Estèphe has alwas been considered as one of best under this name. Last of the estates acquired by Mähler-Besse (1997), this estate of 8 hectares was selected for its development potential, for its medium-size area allowing full control of its production.

Since the acquisition of Château Picard, Mähler-Besse, who has renovated the cellars in the style of Napoleon III, has equipped the estate with a powerful wine-making tool, with gravitation-feed of the harvest. Its exceptional soil with a resemblance to clay, a characteristic of Saint-Estèphe, produces soil loaded with remains calcified with shells and sea urchins. This vineyard with a high percentage of cabernet sauvignon produces wines that are delicately smoky and spicy.
