Nose
2018 Méaume gives up wild blueberries, baked cherries and garrigue scents with suggestions of pencil lead, stewed tea and wild sage.
Palate
Medium-bodied, it has a taut, muscular palate with lovely vibrancy and soft, rounded tannins, finishing with an herbal lift.
Growing Conditions
A wet winter was followed by a wet spring. This was then followed by a long dry spell from late June through to July, August and September with lots of sunshine but cold nights, which helped the vintage. Light rain fell at the right time in September allowing the grapes to achieve maturity and the harvest took place under beautiful conditions.
The grapes produced had a good concentration of flavour and intense colour.
Harvest historical note: the IPCC releases its Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5ºC, warning that “rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society” are needed to ensure that global warming is kept below 1.5 °C.
Soil: Sand/Clay
Winemaking
The careful and delicate selection of the best grapes consistently produces a wine beautifully deep in color, smooth and fruity with roundness, volume and elegance.
Aging
Château Méaume wines are bottled at least 2 years after the harvest.
Appearance
A deep garnet-purple color
Food Pairing
The wine is able to be drunk fairly young, although giving great pleasure for many years to those wine lovers patient enough to store it.
