Château le Bourdieu Vertheuil

A brief history

The vineyards of Chateau Le Bourdieu Vertheuil and Chateau Victoria stretch across the commune of Vertheuil, which borders Saint-Estèphe. The vineyards cover 60 hectares and form one block. The vines flourish in fine gravel soils on a limestone plateau that allows very good drainage and encourages deep root penetration.
40% of the vineyards are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon – which flourishes in the distinctive fine gravel soils. The two other varieties planted for the blend are Merlot (55%), for the finesse and Petit Verdot (5%), for its spice flavours.
Strict methods (such as green harvesting and manual leaf-thinning) are applied in the vineyards where we find plant population densities of 6,500 – 8,200 vines/hectare. Such methods combined with moderate yields (40 hl/ha) allow us to bring about elegance, balance and aromatic finesse in the final wines
