Max de Pourtalès returned to his Bordeaux origins with the acquisition in 1998 of Château Doyac located in the Haut-Médoc appellation. His wife Astrid leaves the New York theater scene to accompany him in this new adventure. Together they fell in love with this magnificent vineyard with ancient origins, as evidenced by “Bordeaux and its wines” from Editions Féret from 1850.
Extensive renovation work has been carried out both in the vineyards and in the cellars. Following the expansion of the vineyard in 2009, Max de Pourtalès had a new conditioning cellar and a new barrel cellar built, in order to optimize the production of the wine. In addition, a tasting room equipped with a professional pizza oven can accommodate journalists as well as tourists who love wine and pizzas. Everything is there to allow this vineyard to express itself in the best possible conditions.
“My philosophy,” explains Max de Pourtalès, “is not to make wines that are too extracted as the whole world knows how to do, but on the contrary, to obtain fine and elegant wines. This does not prevent having substance, but it is necessary to respect the balance and the freshness, finally all that characterizes the great wines of Bordeaux. ". Surrounded by their team and the advice of their oenologists Eric Boissenot and Marco Balsimelli, Max and Astrid de Pourtalès seek each year the blends that will best respect the vintage and reveal the personality of Château Doyac wine.

Le Pélican rouge is a 100% Merlot cuvée. It is a very charming wine , easy to drink young. It is full of fruit and has been aged in a big wooden tank.

The Pélican Blanc is a Bordeaux Blanc white wine. The vines are planted on a very calc soil so the wine is very mineral and fruity.

The Château Doyac 2018 is organic certified and in conversion towards biodynamic, Demeter.
This wine has been aged in barrels and amphorae. It is elegant and fine, full of fruit and complexity. The best period for drinking this vintage is from now until 2028.
